Win Today.
2021 – turns out it’s about the same as 2020. Sure situation has changed, virus’ are still a thing, their is a new administration and Congress in the American Government. Really though, another year is simply a number on a manmade calendar that has minimal impact on your life. December 31 is pretty much the same as January 1st. Tomorrow will feel like yesterday and your normal today will be dictated by your choices yesterday.
Solomon stated it best in Ecclesiasties 1.9 — “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”
Why bother, frequently runs through my head. The chaos around me is so far out of my control, sin is what it is, and I’m just me. Why would 2021 be any different than 2020?
As these thoughts plague my general attitude — this hashtag rolls through my mind to #pwnsomebaddies — and I recall the reality that all of God dwells inside of me. This concept of being anointed by God to release captives or declare the Gospel or to trust that God’s Word doesn’t return void. I feel the comfort of the Word of God in a moment. Theres an awareness of the grace to love the people in front of me today.
Anyone can relate to this internal struggle. It’s the intensity of our feelings vs the paradoxical nature of faith.
Who is going to win today?
Will I enact my choice to apply faith and force alignment with Jesus?
Or do I play out as a victim of circumstance?
I want to invite you to make this courageous choice everyday this year. Get up in the morning and turn your affection to Jesus. The imposters vying for your attention are work, your to-do list, current events, the economy, social media…all in and of themselves great things — but will contribute to your soul not having actual faith to fight the cultural messages of fear, shame and blame.
Everything thing Holy Spirit has been speaking to us about the coming year is our need to remain in the simple love of God, as found and modeled in the life of Jesus Christ. That through this reality we get to partner with Him in seeking and saving the lost, while modeling communion with God to those around us.
